Before Visiting Us
Producing reliable, correct, timely test results with high diagnostic value is closely associated with taking the clinical sample on time, from the appropriate area, in compliance with proper conditions and sending the sample to the laboratory under healthy conditions. Therefore, it is essential to pay attention to several issues before sending the sample for testing.
Hormone tests with rhythm swings and changing level during the day
Samples for Cortisol and ACTH tests must be definitely taken between 08:00-10:00 am or 16:00-18:00 pm due to rhythm swings in particular. For other tests, samples must be taken preferably on empty stomach before noon due to the fact that it is likely to have an impact on reference range standardization and on lippemia test precision.
Some Specific Tests
I. TRIMESTER DOWN SYNDROME SCREENING TEST:
It is essential to take blood sample and perform ultrasonic measurement on the same day. The time elapsed between the two procedures should not exceed 24 hours. It is required to bring along the ultrasonic measurement values while visiting the laboratory for giving blood.
Microscopic examination of stool and parasitological examination:
Stool sample must be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour for parasitological examination.
For enterobius vermicular investigation, cellophane band analysis is conducted. Lames with cellophane band required for this analysis may be provided from our laboratory. Right after waking up and before going to the bathroom, a sample must be taken from anus area with cellophane band and attached the lame smoothly. Along with cellophane band preparations, fresh stool sample must be delivered to the laboratory within 1 hour.
Medication Level Tests (carbamazepine, cyclosporin, digoxin, lithium, phenytoin, valproic acid, etc.):
Unless the physician suggests or instructs otherwise, it is recommended not to take the morning dose before coming to the laboratory.
Angiotensin Converting Enzyme ( ACE ) :
Within the group of ACE inhibitor, Antihypertensive drugs (Captopril, Captoril, Lopril, etc.) should not be used within 12 hours before sampling within the control and knowledge of the doctor
Tests performed in 24-hour urine:
Metabolite of many substances in our body are extracted with urine. It is primarily essential to collect the 24-hour urine properly and deliver under proper conditions to the laboratory in order to evaluate the levels of such metabolites correctly. For this purpose, essential protective substances must be placed into the collection container before starting to collect urine. It is possible to procure these protective substances and urine collection container from our laboratories.
24-hour Urine Sample Collection:
If the following listed tests are among the ones requested by the doctor, please contact our laboratory for detailed information (diet, medication etc.) about the collection container, containing protective substance and about the test to be performed.
Helicobacter Pylori Antigen Test in Stool (HPSA) and urea breath test:
Antibiotics used in the treatment, the use of drugs containing bismuth and proton pump inhibitors affect test results. Therefore, it is essential to give sample after 2 weeks following the end of the treatment containing administration of these drugs.
5 – Hydroxyindol acetic acid (5 – HIAA ):
A proper diet regimen must be applied 3 days before collecting 24-hour urine sample and during the sample collection period. In your diet regimen, you shouldn't have chocolate which contains serotonin as well as coffee, tea, banana, tomato, walnut, eggplant, orange, lemon and pineapple. It is recommended not to use aspirin, painkillers, hypertension drugs and cough syrups which contain guaiacol.
Oxalic Acid (oxalate) and Citric Acid (citrate):
You shouldn't consume spinach, chocolate, tomato, strawberry, ice-cream, cake, meat, chicken and fish 2 days before starting to collect urine sample and during the collection period. Ascorbic acid ( C vitamin) and drugs which contain calcium should not be taken other than compulsory conditions.
Test required to be performed with the samples taken following 12-hour fasting
Other than compulsory cases, it is recommended to take the samples after 12-hour fasting for all biochemical tests.
Tests required to be performed following an absolute 12-hour fasting:

24-hour Urine Sample Collection:
- Urinary bladder is emptied by extracting the first urine in the morning.
- All urines afterwards are collected in a collection container for 24 hours without letting out any. Collection container is kept in a cool area within that period.
- The first urine in the next morning is taken into the collection container and delivered to the laboratory within the shortest time possible.
